One of the most sought after Coastlines in Europe and perhaps even the World – The Algarve Coastline hosts Millions each year, and many celebrities treasure this location, a real hot spot.
Visiting the Beautiful Coastline
First time I visited The Algarve in Portugal I was only 15 years old, first holiday without my parents – I was with my friends parents of course, I hastily add. Really excited we were, my best friend and I to be
finally on holiday abroad together.
We were staying in the quaint quiet village of Praia Da Luz and having only been to large resorts like Benidorm in Spain previously, my friend and I looked at each other and thought “oh, well at least there is a beach.” Then any worries about us finding something to do vanished when we discovered there was a Bar and a Nightclub on the beach front and they appeared to let us in with no questions asked about our age! This was circa 1993, so I’ve no idea what the age restrictions were back then but we were delighted they appeared relaxed and we quickly gathered a circle of new friends and encouraged them to join in on our underage pub crawl (from 1 bar to the 1 nightclub, 50 metres down the road), including two lovely Scottish girls who hadn’t touched a drop in their life, clearly converted to party revellers by the time they left – it’s okay though, it’s in their heritage, it would have happened anyway.
We had a great time and my friend’s parents took us to different beaches, we did water sports and I remember there was always a lovely breeze on the beach, weather was scorching but the cool breeze from the Atlantic always made it bearable. Until you forgot to re-apply your suntan cream because you didn’t think it was that hot! Ouch.
I have always had lovely memories of that holiday, however once I was old enough to go on holiday without anyone’s parents and actually old enough to legally partake in a pub crawl, the Algarve wasn’t really on my radar, choosing the hyped busy party destinations like Ibiza and Ayia Napa, popular destinations with the young folk back in the day and still now.
